The American Jazz Museum is committed to making 18th & Vine — and americanjazzmuseum.org — welcoming and usable for everyone, including visitors with disabilities.

Our standard

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Every page is automatically tested against WCAG 2.1 A and AA criteria, in both light and dark display modes, before it is published.

What we've done

  • Keyboard access. Every interactive element — menus, dialogs, the language switcher, media players — can be operated without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Screen-reader support. Images carry descriptive alternative text; page structure uses proper headings and landmarks; a “skip to main content” link is provided.
  • Readable color. Text and interface colors are tested to meet AA contrast in both light and dark modes.
  • Multiple languages. Core visitor information is available in Spanish, Dutch, Arabic, and German, with on-screen text — including image descriptions — provided in each language.
  • Reduced motion. Animations are minimized automatically for visitors who prefer reduced motion in their device settings.

Known limitations

  • Machine-assisted translations. Our Spanish, Dutch, Arabic, and German pages are produced with machine translation and reviewed for accuracy. Translated pages carry a notice to this effect. If you find an error, please let us know using the contact below.
  • Third-party services. Some features link to outside services (ticketing, donations, our shop) that we do not control and cannot guarantee meet the same standard.
