Other Ways to Support
We know that you may not be ready to visit the Museum yet, but would like to help in other ways, and for that we thank you! After being closed for nearly three months in 2020 and then operating with reduced occupancy restrictions, we will endure a significant shortfall. If you are able, we would love for you to become a member or provide a donation of any amount that is significant to you. 18th & Vine IS where jazz lives, so we thank you for your support in helping the legacy play on.
The American Jazz Museum and other KC Culture Cares institutions will implement reopening in phases, testing what works well, what areas need more stringent measures, and what can be relaxed. They will share their successes with each other and learn from their collective knowledge, communicating with visitors each step of the way. As recommendations evolve, more details will be available at www.kcculturecares.org.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY ARE PARTS OF THE MUSEUM CLOSED?
There are areas of the Museum that are not accessible in conjunction with maintaining guidelines for social distancing, such as the area in front of The Blue Room stage. When public health officials determine that social distancing is no longer necessary, we will reopen these areas.
WHY DO YOU HAVE ONLY TWO TIMES WHEN I CAN VISIT EVERY DAY?
Due to city regulations on occupancy levels, we are only able to have a small fraction of guests in our space at any time. Most visitors spend between 2-3 hours in the Museum. Because of that, we wanted to create two separate times when guests could visit so that the largest number of guests would be able to experience the American Jazz Museum. Additionally, having two sessions with a gap between them allows for enhanced cleaning.
DO I NEED TO BUY MY TICKET ONLINE IN ADVANCE?
No, but we would strongly encourage you to purchase tickets in advance. We also recommend you reserve your Museum Passport in advance as well to ensure space is available. By purchasing your tickets in advance, you will guarantee the ability to visit on your preferred date/time. Because the Museum is subject to lower occupancy levels due to city regulations, it’s possible we will reach our maximum occupancy at any time. When that occurs, we be unable to allow additional visitors into the Museum.
WHAT IS A MUSEUM PASSPORT?
Your Museum Passport is required to reserve a visit time to visit The Museums at 18th & Vine. Museum passports allow for the tracking occupancy limits within our shared building with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The Passport is Free and MUST be reserved here: https://jazzandbaseballkc.eventbrite.com
I BOUGHT A TICKET IN ADVANCE ONLINE – DO I NEED TO WAIT IN LINE TO GET A TICKET?
When you arrive at the Museum, you will begin by presenting your pre-reserved Museum Passport. If you did not reserve your passport prior to arriving, then we can enroll you if space is available. Once you have checked in with your Museum Passport, you may proceed directly to the exhibits entrance and show your ticket confirmation for entry.
CAN I PURCHASE DISCOUNT COMBO TICKETS TO THE AMERICAN JAZZ MUSEUM AND NEGRO LEAGUES BASEBALL MUSEUM?
You may purchase discounted combination tickets to The Museums at 18th & Vine both in-person and online here. You must ALSO reserve your Museum Passport, in addition to purchasing your discount combination ticket.
WHERE DO I ENTER THE BUILDING DURING SOCIAL DISTANCING?
