## How it works

Each session is an hour of active listening. The room stays quiet while the records play, with breaks to talk through the musical, historical, and social context of what we heard. Houston Gonzales, the museum's education programs manager, leads the listening and the discussion.

## The albums

Ben Webster was born in Kansas City in 1909, and played with Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra and Andy Kirk's Twelve Clouds of Joy before he left for New York. Teddy Wilson, who plays on most of this month's records, was born on November 24, 1912.

The list is source material for the hour, like a book club's reading list, and the session probably won't get to every record. Listen to a few beforehand if you can, but come either way.

* Ben & Teddy, Ben Webster & Teddy Wilson (recorded 1970)
* The Original Benny Goodman Trio and Quartet Sessions, Vol. 1: After You've Gone, Benny Goodman (recorded 1935–1937)
* The Impeccable Mr. Wilson, Teddy Wilson (recorded 1956)
* Jazz Masters: Gene Krupa, Gene Krupa (recorded 1927–1962)
