A NEW Sound
Welcome to New Orleans, home to historic architecture, mouthwatering cuisines, and legendary jazz. Save Art is always looking for new ways to contribute to the ever-evolving art community by supporting both artists and art-based causes. Their eighth project explores the city of New Orleans and one of its greatest musical treasures, the iconic American genre of jazz.
Save Art traveled to the Crescent City to learn as much as they could about jazz from those who know it best. While there, they wanted to create a unique artifact to commemorate the past and present artists of the city. They scoured junkyards for metal salvaged from buildings and homes affected by gentrification, natural disasters, and housing redevelopment programs.
Master instrument builder Mike "The Horn Doctor" Corrigan transformed the remnants they found into a one-of-a-kind playable trumpet. The trumpet and their corresponding video-journalism project on jazz are being displayed and used in educational programs at the top music museums across the country.
