MLK Day of Service Celebration

About the MLK Day of Service Celebration (MLKDOSC)

On Monday, January 20th, 2020, MLKDOSC volunteers across the United States will dedicate their hearts and time to a day of service on MLK Day. MLKDOSC offers an opportunity to share community and neighborhood accomplishments in Kansas City. This program includes Edutainment, media designed to educate through entertainment, Ourstory, the history of the day of the service, and a Platform for community members to build awareness, unity, and local service efforts. Food will be provided. More details for the event are found below:

Meet and greet with attendees with a tour of the American Jazz Museum to follow.

About Mr. Bennie R. Mitchell, III

Mr. Bennie R. Mitchell, III is the director of the documentary "It Is Well." Born in Savannah, GA to Mr.& Mrs. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr., Bennie grew up at a historically black boarding school in Mississippi. Bennie then went back to his hometown to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in FA in Video / Film / Sound Design in 2001.  Bennie started making the film in Jan. 2007and finished in 2018. Some of the footage “Little Bennie” shot at 12 years old is in the film.

The family of Rev. Dr. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr. has done their part in honoring Dr. Mitchell’s name in life. In 2014, his wife and three children set goals to continue to work in the community collectively using their talents focusing on Scholarship, Art and Education.
