Kansas City Jazz Collective Big Band

Paul Andrew Roberts has been performing in Kansas City since the mid-80's. Having an extensive interest in various forms of music and media, he attended UMKC's Conservatory of Music and Dance to study trombone and music composition. 

Roberts has performed alongside many Kansas City artists including Ida McBeth and Charles Williams. He also serves as a composer and arranger for Glamour Profession, a Steely Dan cover band, and the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra.Kansas City Jazz Collective Big Band is his debut project as a bandleader, composer and arranger.

Kelley Gant

Now based in Kansas City, jazz vocalist Kelley Gant has been performing professionally for more than ten years.  Beginning with an education in choral performance, she is currently performing as a lead vocalist and in small ensembles.  Mentored by guitarist Wayne Goins (director, KSU jazz studies), she later launched herself as a band-leader, performing jazz regularly in Chicago and Kansas City, and touring through Mexico and the United States.  She currently leads a large event band, working regularly in the Midwest.

Shay Estes

Shay Estes has been singing in Kansas City's famous jazz clubs for eight years, performing with the likes of Mark Southerland, Mark Lowrey, Brad Cox and many others. Her current focus is on Brazilian jazz and the various styles that shaped it.

Amber Underwood

Jazz and Classical flutist, educator, band director, bandleader and vocalist Amber Underwood is a native of Kansas City and has been entertaining and performing music since the tender age of 8. Beginning her musical journey on the piano and soon after began playing classical flute.

While in college, Amber discovered Jazz and became intrigued with the art form inspired by musical influences of Bobbi Humphrey, Hubert Laws, Frank Wess, Herbie Mann and Nestor Torres and found a love for the art form. At age 20, Amber graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and by 23 she completed a Masters of Arts in Arts Administration and Music Business from the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory and continued her education with a second Master’s degree in Education and Teaching Music from Pittsburgh State University.

Amber has been a presence in the Kansas City jazz scene making a place and a voice for her instrument. In the beginning of 2014 the Amber Underwood Project was formed with original members Drew Davis, DeAndre Manning, and Tyree Johnson with the mission to showcase an instrument that is normally used as an auxiliary instrument in jazz but now as a solo instrument. AUP is a modern and fresh take on smooth jazz, contemporary, original and R&B sounds. AUP uses the rich tones and colors of the flute to interpret the various styles and genres of jazz.

Sophia Hollman

Sophia Hollman is a saxophonist living in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

Andrea Rogers

Trumpeter Andrea Rogers grew up in western Missouri. After being introduced to music at an early age, her love of jazz music developed during junior high school and she played in jazz bands throughout high school and college. Andrea studied trumpet performance at William Jewell College, graduating in 2003. She is a very active musician and plays in several community groups throughout the KC Metro area. She also gigs around town, most recently playing 'Anything Goes' at The White Theater. Andrea loves playing jazz, and is excited to be performing for the first time at the Blue Room.

Karita Carter

Karita Carter was brought up and schooled in an all-musical family in Kansas City, Kansas. Karita played piano, violin, cello, and bass until she was introduced to the trombone by her junior high school music instructor. From that time on to the present, playing the trombone has opened the door to many wonderful musical experiences. She has participated in musical events that have featured both local and national artist within the world of Jazz, R&B, etc. Her intentions are to continue to expand on her musical experiences in all genres.

Kristen Nall

Kristen Nall is a trombonist living in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
