For the last thirty-five years David Valdez, an internationally recognized saxophonist, bandleader, and clinician, has performed at major jazz and music festivals in Canada, Europe, Japan, Mexico, India, and across the United States, with some of the biggest names in Jazz. He has released six CDs as a leader. His 2007 CD, Oasis, received radio airplay in 14 countries worldwide. In 2017, Valdez released a Chamber-Jazz CD, Shades of Happiness, on the ARC label.
In 2017, Valdez left his position at Portland State University to relocate to the Kansas City area to study Jazz Composition at the University of Kansas, where he also directs large and small Jazz ensembles. Valdez can be heard around Kansas City with groups like; the KC Monktet, the Jim Lower Big Band, and Cubanismo. He continues to present jazz clinics and perform internationally while teaching at the University of Kansas. David publishes Casa Valdez Studios, one of the highest ranked Jazz blogs for over a decade, with nearly three million page views. CasaValdez Studios has allowed David to network with top Jazz players and educators around the world, which has led to invitations to teach at the Prague International Summer Jazz Workshop, Oaxaca City and New Delhi . This coming year Valdez will be adjudicating Jazz festivals at Baker and Northern Arizona Universities.
