Calvin Arsenia Cantaloupe Album Release
Following his partnership with Kansas City record label Bullseye Records, Calvin Arsenia will unveil his sophomore release, Cantaloupe, with a live performance at the Gem Theater in the historic 18th and Vine jazz district on September 15th, 2018. Taking place two weeks prior to the international launch of the record, the event gives Kansas City friends and supporters an intimate, first listen to Arsenia’s much-anticipated follow-up to his 2017 debut album, Catastrophe.
During this one-night-only performance, Arsenia will share the stage with a stable of musicians spanning the local jazz, classical, and folk communities. Laying the foundation for Calvin’s electric harp and silky voice will be percussionist Simon Huntley, the Sextet’s Robert Castillo on bass, jazz pianist Charles Williams, and electronic musician and producer J Ashley Miller. Also featured is a 6-piece string ensemble with Tina Bilberry and Carmen Dieker on violin, Alyssa Bell on viola, Ezgi Karakus and Eman Chalshotori on cello, and Rick Willoughby on upright bass. Flanking the other side of the stage is a brass-wind ensemble featuring banjo-goddess Teri Quinn, trumpet player Clint Ashlock, and Billy Winston on soprano sax and flute. Joining Calvin on vocals will be Jessica Paige and Ashley Jean Rippeto.
A complex mix of dynamic, moody, and soul-inspired musical stylings, Cantaloupe brings a mature spin to Arsenia’s usual whimsy. Merging jazz, soul, classical, folk, and pop into a five-course musical meal, Arsenia excels on multiple traditional stringed instruments including the heady and romantic Celtic harp he’s become known for. Arsenia’s distinctive and emotive voice validates why audiences across North America and Europe have been delighted and rocked by his radiant wake. Cantaloupe was produced and co-written with Jametatone’s J Ashley Miller and Quixotic’s Simon Huntley, and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Kutch.
Since 2016, Arsenia has graced Helzberg Hall on multiple occasions with his original music along with the likes of Kansas City staples Jeff Harshbarger and Clint Ashlock, and has been featured on recordings with Brad Cox and Krystle Warren.
