Blue Monday Jam Session: Arny Young

Bring your instrument and sit in at the weekly Blue Monday Jam Session – or just take in the sounds of one of Kansas City’s best jam sessions. Each Monday night begins with a set by a featured ensemble and then we open the mic to interested musicians. Doors open at 5:00 pm, live music starts at 7:00 pm, jam session starts at 8:00 pm. Arrive early to sign up!

Arny Young

Arnold Young is a lifetime student of the drums and cymbals aka the drum set and a composer. He has played many diverse forms of music including Jazz, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Afro Pop and Experimental. He was the first musician in Kansas City to form a group, Advertisement for a Dream, dedicated to free improvisation and other alternate paths to Jazz improvisation. He has worked with Avant Garde master saxophonist Sonny Simmons and many other jazz greats.  He played with Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians in the San Francisco Bay area and also worked with a former member of Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band. He leads the RoughTet, a group dedicated to new directions in Jazz.
