Jazz is for everyone! Experience jazz in a unique kid-focused setting every month at Jazz Storytelling! Start on a path to be the next jazz master with Toddler-Preschool and Elementary weekly classes in the Kansas City Jazz Academy! Take a tour of the American Jazz Museum that meets the needs of your classroom!
Offered free on First Fridays at 10:00 a.m. in the atrium of the American Jazz Museum for children in the greater Kansas City area. The program introduces kids to the sounds and styles of jazz, America’s art form! JAZZ Storytelling features an internationally renowned cast including vocalist Lisa Henry, storyteller Brother John, bassist Tyrone Clark, and drummer Mike Warren.
Kansas City Jazz Academy
The Academy offers general music classes designed to:
- Teach families about the core concepts, instruments and great performers of jazz.
- Utilize improvisation, movement, play, art, story and song to explore the jazz experience.
- Promote and develop an understanding and appreciation of jazz as a true part of American Culture.
Classes for ages 3-6 begin at 9 a.m. and classes for ages 7-12 begin at 10 a.m. Classes are one hour. Teen classes meet in the afternoon. Registration is now open for the Spring session that begins February 3, 2017.
Our engaging Museum tours bring Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington to life! Our tours are designed to work with teachers curricula and needs. Each Art Gallery exhibition has a unique tour designed to complement it. Admission discounts are offered for groups of 25 or more. Email Leola White or call us at (816)474-8463 to book a tour.
Bring jazz to your classroom! Our lively staff is available for visits to day cares, preschools, and elementary schools.
