The American Jazz Museum has been around since 1997 continuing a mission to celebrate and exhibit the experience of jazz as an original American art form through performance, exhibition, education, and research.    

As we look towards celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2022, we find ourselves in the midst of an opportunity to revamp our image, restate and reinvigorate our importance as a cultural ambassador, historical steward, and present promotor of the jazz experience from roots to beyond.  We are a hybrid institution with multiple inroads for engagement including, a permanent exhibition space, changing gallery, working jazz club, and theater venue.  We’ve got space and opportunity to host, educate and entertain many with a deep desire to reawaken the passion that led to the founding of our institution and early avid support.  We also proudly anchor the 18th & Vine Jazz District and represent the great potential to grow, showcase and expand our community, outward impact and presence.

As Kansas City looks to build tourism, conference destination populations, and more international access with a new airport set to open in 2023, we’d like to spotlight how the American Jazz Museum is enthusiastically renewing and re-centering ourselves in the “New Midwest,” poised for audience expansion and growth, so too putting forward a new and updated vision for the future.


We’d like to engage a PR firm to focus on the following goals and outcomes:

  • Develop better brand strategy & messaging
  • Build excitement around the reemergence of the museum as a valuable local asset
  • Increase return museum visitorship and engagement
  • Build and expand new audience visitorship and engagement
  • Increase membership
  • Broaden our tourism reach as a must see for all visitors to the KC area
  • Raise our virtual/social media profile(s)
  • Develop better digital content & feature story opportunities locally, nationally and internationally
  • Build more awareness and creditability for donors, supporters and funders
