The elder, yet still vibrant statesman of a rich national heritage, the Newport Jazz Festival® was the first of its kind in America. Its influence on the development of a worldwide jazz audience is unparalleled, and its enduring prestige unquestioned. 2014 marks the festival’s 60th anniversary year and will be celebrated with a worldwide tour featuring an all-star band led by Israeli clarinetist and saxophonist Anat Cohen.
This handpicked multi-generational ensemble features artists who musically represent the festival’s rich heritage, its contemporary significance and the globalization of jazz today. Their concert repertoire will span the ages – from Louis, Duke and Miles to Latin, Brazilian and fusion, and so much more!
The “front-line” of the touring ensemble features renowned vocalist Karrin Allyson, 5-time Grammy-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker, and versatile guitarist Mark Whitfield, accompanied by the A-list rhythm section of pianist Peter Martin, drummer Clarence Penn and bassist Larry Grenadier.
